CEC is looking to further build our Environmental Services Group we are seeking a technician to perform Surface Emissions Monitoring with our Nashville, TN team. 

Job Description

Performing this task will require the technician to walk several miles per day, following a predetermined route

Interested candidates should thrive in an ever changing, fast-paced environment while working as a team or independently to complete tasks. The objective of the job is to support our ongoing environmental efforts to help landfills reduce pollution and greenhouse gases by controlling the gas generated by the natural decomposition of garbage.

The position is field based and requires significant outdoor work, to be performed during typical Monday through Friday work week (7AM -5PM), with limited weekend needs. The successful applicant will join our team in Tullytown to work at a complex of three closed landfill sites, at which there is no exposure to trash. This is an apprenticeship style position where the primary responsibility is to scan the surface of the landfills with a gas analyzer to monitor for possible possible methane emissions and verify the integrity of the landfill gas containment systems. 

 Should a source of emissions be located, minor repairs to gas wells, wellheads, and various other field components and infrastructure will be required to maintain gas containment and compliance. The technician will need to gain knowledge on regulatory requirements and timelines to perform both the scan and necessary repairs to maintain compliance standards.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Use an air monitoring/sampling device to monitor surface emissions
  • Complete construction related tasks such as: LFG system repairs, HDPE Fusion
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot pneumatic pumps throughout field
  • Wear OSHA Level D and required personal protective monitoring devices
  • Input and interpret field data, complete daily work logs, checklists, forms, MS Office
  • Troubleshoot, inspect and repair equipment and machinery
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems dealing with CPU’s, PLC’s., automated controls, actuator valves, thermocouples, and ignition systems
  • Miscellaneous errands (equipment and vehicle maintenance and cleaning, equipment inventory, non-routine tasks, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Sciences/related field preferred)
  • Valid Driver’s License with no DUI’s and a clean driving record
  • Must be at least 21 years or older
  • Must be eligible to be legally employed in the U.S.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to walk several miles in a day.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle records check
  • Landfill gas field experience or construction experience (preferred)

Applicants for this role should:

  • Be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions the majority of the day.
  • Enjoy using hand tools to make minor repairs.
  • Have experience with using Excel/Word to log and analyze data, and write short reports of activities.
  • Be a self-starter and be able to work well independently as well as with others.
  • Learn to be familiar with government compliance regulations and timelines.
  • Shift between tasks to address higher priority items, sometimes with little warning.

Salary: $21.00-$22.00 per hour
