JOB DESCRIPTION – CONSTRUCTION QUALITY ASSURANCE (CQA) TECHNICIAN

Carlson Environmental Consultants, Inc. is looking for a candidate Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) services on construction projects.  CEC is a rapidly growing consulting firm (ENR Top 200 Environmental Firm) providing engineering, construction management, and construction services for the solid waste industry.

CEC offers great opportunity for advancement at a rapidly growing company.  We are looking for a long-term employee to help grow our CQA services.  The ideal candidate has at least one (1) full year of experience and is dedicated, flexible to travel as needed, and eager to learn.  Construction project oversight will range from landfill gas collection system installations, to landfill cell construction, to landfill cap construction projects.

CEC will offer very competitive pay and a benefits package including Health Insurance, 401K, and performance based annual bonus.  Position includes truck, cell phone, laptop computer, and needed PPE.

General Responsibilities:

Perform Construction Quality Assurance services – including field tests, observation and inspection of soils, aggregates, landfill gas (LFG) collection and control system (GCCS) piping, geosynthetic components, and erosion control products at solid waste disposal facilities. Compile sample observation data to assist a Project Manager with construction record report submittals. Position requires extensive travel with assignments ranging from one (1) month to six (6) months on average. This is an hourly position that routinely requires 50+ hours per week and outside in all weather. Candidates should expect 100% travel time while on an assignment.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Operates field testing equipment to perform standardized and sometimes complex field tests as directed and/or special inspections as required.
  • Effectively communicate testing and inspection results.
  • Document and prepare sample observation data using a laptop or tablet device to submit the findings accurately to the Project Manager.
  • Assists the Project Manager with preparing the written construction record report submittals.
  • Ensures that all testing equipment are properly calibrated and maintained.
  • Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing the work. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Maintains quality standards on all projects.

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant landfill CQA experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, or similar software.
  • Successful completion of related safety and technical certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Preferred Certification:

  • Geosynthetic Certification Institute – Inspectors Certification Program (GCI – ICP) for Geosynthetic and Compacted Clay Liner Materials
  • Other national, regional, state, and local environmental related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered.
